So I have been very inspired, and since it was my crafty friend's birthday recently, I decided to creatively package the miscellaneous papercraft supplies I got her for her birthday instead of shoving it in a gift bag and calling it a day.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSbadAJQmgfuAxU90d3b_BSbIhyphenhyphenipxg0FAqhrpj0Wuy1INTcz4nIUcAZxrctMcmHauT27b7njx1Vkt84yfHxB1ubH3k5Nxt4RKCmERDA9zfZxe5xcnhm1cLoBrfHEiXHGBaf9UUG4-PnY/s1600/anatomyofapresent.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="467" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSbadAJQmgfuAxU90d3b_BSbIhyphenhyphenipxg0FAqhrpj0Wuy1INTcz4nIUcAZxrctMcmHauT27b7njx1Vkt84yfHxB1ubH3k5Nxt4RKCmERDA9zfZxe5xcnhm1cLoBrfHEiXHGBaf9UUG4-PnY/s640/anatomyofapresent.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I taped two big envelopes together, added little strips of scrapbooking paper with slits cut into it to tuck little washi tape samples, made a pocket from a coin envelope, and decorated with lots of washi tape and stickers. I also wrapped some washi tape around these adorable wooden bobbins I found at a local store for some fun flair.<br />
<br />
The washi tape samples are from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/LePresentDelicat" target="_blank">this wonderful Etsy shop called LePresentDelicat</a> - I grabbed a couple of her washi sample mystery grab bags and as you can see got so many fun designs.<br />
<br />
All in all, I managed to fit a lot of stuff in this flipbook.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ4lEwI2JTYCo-7CzSVw0Xq-7NTAw-cOJhQotywaJYujW7fv8fBqeJWq-jM1fFg7JnGFuQR-z-r6PKQD1WFw2oSeRoF_b9x52DC8xD1zx2IbWW6hXo-PsKLYSJ2-4-Jo_SsqRbvfkBquM/s1600/IMG_0815.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ4lEwI2JTYCo-7CzSVw0Xq-7NTAw-cOJhQotywaJYujW7fv8fBqeJWq-jM1fFg7JnGFuQR-z-r6PKQD1WFw2oSeRoF_b9x52DC8xD1zx2IbWW6hXo-PsKLYSJ2-4-Jo_SsqRbvfkBquM/s1600/IMG_0815.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here is my current WIP - this adorable <a href="http://www.braceletbook.com/pattern_normal/17932.html#prettyPhoto" target="_blank">watermelon pattern</a>:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKS5qG4D_ClL9nPcDFqdF2TbF3u-qkS9q6S67Mrj7KIct1olvtAdYNLD7WDdTeOaJzH1N_sY7uyqEMp3mqTE3ol5QlUTmksFRglrYTdDMIWJT4yq9aVGE8mjyzPrCRsg5HUHEPODMYjO4/s1600/IMG_0808.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKS5qG4D_ClL9nPcDFqdF2TbF3u-qkS9q6S67Mrj7KIct1olvtAdYNLD7WDdTeOaJzH1N_sY7uyqEMp3mqTE3ol5QlUTmksFRglrYTdDMIWJT4yq9aVGE8mjyzPrCRsg5HUHEPODMYjO4/s1600/IMG_0808.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh, and I don't know if anyone's noticed, but I revamped my blog a bit! Which was long overdue. I'm really feeling the soft blue and vibrant red color combo lately.<br />
<br />sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-20355311346281677932015-03-11T22:30:00.001+02:002015-03-11T22:33:35.765+02:00Entrelac Scarf, ReduxI recently got commissioned to knit an entrelac scarf. This project completely ate my life for over three weeks, but I think the end result was damn worth it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6X8N76VGjtFLP8Q021gC14RR4P1kizTkcMKS-eV30hi3-M207PQYYpf0aEhALvfobHR7E4DP8JXtDgDPcDZ-Q1Uhg_-v9m_4wAmtEwHsmsbYvr1vGjes3GaPfKO0v_5PXosihNmshga8/s1600/IMG_0754.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6X8N76VGjtFLP8Q021gC14RR4P1kizTkcMKS-eV30hi3-M207PQYYpf0aEhALvfobHR7E4DP8JXtDgDPcDZ-Q1Uhg_-v9m_4wAmtEwHsmsbYvr1vGjes3GaPfKO0v_5PXosihNmshga8/s1600/IMG_0754.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used a multi-colored yarn this time, instead of three different colors of yarn like <a href="http://craftsbysinjah.blogspot.com/2012/01/entrelac-scarf-finally-finished.html" target="_blank">last time</a>, and I am definitely in love with the result. Much less fussy, and the result is quite stunning.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<a href="http://yarnart.info/UrunDetay.aspx?uid=70" target="_blank">This yarn</a> is particularly pretty, and has great variation in color. I am actually making a second scarf like this right now in another colorway, and I am still so in love with how different the colors come out. The yarn is quite perfect for entrelac.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtvVv2IrlpdF-7sDGY5yJ6-1S-wE5yb2X9JA9fOrhbOwztOOOaX5XU0Sr7x-zHN9mHFsSoap7p6h_r8FcX5Pic-J8UzUyGo7mdyjulHBXzVBYOlaOC1WQYLkNwzpBHZsNpoG2AvEtPAe4/s1600/IMG_0676.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtvVv2IrlpdF-7sDGY5yJ6-1S-wE5yb2X9JA9fOrhbOwztOOOaX5XU0Sr7x-zHN9mHFsSoap7p6h_r8FcX5Pic-J8UzUyGo7mdyjulHBXzVBYOlaOC1WQYLkNwzpBHZsNpoG2AvEtPAe4/s1600/IMG_0676.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>

Fun to make bracelets with, <i>and</i> arrange in pretty ways.</div>
<br />sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-34852586474386089212015-01-31T15:19:00.000+02:002015-01-31T15:19:52.219+02:00New crafting obsessionI know, I know. Long time no see on the craft blog.<br />
<br />
One of my goals this year is to be more active over here; to worry less about making perfect posts of super unique things, and just post more about, well, things I am actually making on the regular.<br />
<br />
So I'm kicking off the new year with a post about my newest crafting obsession - friendship bracelets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpLzYHtucd1BiT4aNCGT5NoW0wwELhTZXA1IciMu3dLT6lVbHf1laDrIO3_dzfsicL2I1XfJSokiC-C37KkaURsa_bULvq-MqE2mZzg0qSgZmEUf4rsNXrrQf_Mg4Wn6gZ4xQtNHLld8E/s1600/IMG_0427.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpLzYHtucd1BiT4aNCGT5NoW0wwELhTZXA1IciMu3dLT6lVbHf1laDrIO3_dzfsicL2I1XfJSokiC-C37KkaURsa_bULvq-MqE2mZzg0qSgZmEUf4rsNXrrQf_Mg4Wn6gZ4xQtNHLld8E/s1600/IMG_0427.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I know, such a throwback to middle school. However, this time, I have discovered <a href="http://www.friendship-bracelets.net/">friendship-bracelets.net</a> and <a href="http://www.braceletbook.com/">braceletbook.com</a> and all their lovely, lovely patterns.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixZUCVOWE3UKOvrt0rEdHJ9_PJdb0Z2OkgF9b77GdhowN2t0cZ8O5o63FFaNRaYT8WRDBzmpVUWKSPTb4kTO_BJJ1V2ZezFhFeEQ2h6MqYdYZz3UkdNey8opLr7peFjNyoRzu_2J4UuPQ/s1600/IMG_0629.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixZUCVOWE3UKOvrt0rEdHJ9_PJdb0Z2OkgF9b77GdhowN2t0cZ8O5o63FFaNRaYT8WRDBzmpVUWKSPTb4kTO_BJJ1V2ZezFhFeEQ2h6MqYdYZz3UkdNey8opLr7peFjNyoRzu_2J4UuPQ/s1600/IMG_0629.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't stop making them! I have acquired way too much embroidery thread, and even a bobbin winder so I would have no more horrible tangled messes of thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFw8HSvD9Oil5VQpSsIre1N-iY2DH4iDPOdh4UJSQb2G1c6_jaewgVNhAZfaLdJdgoiFjp0JGcyF8fgJ_1JShS42Bs2P3A2ULJT0om_50TvjIENHU7CYuqojhIwnOie9QXvOgzIyyVkbc/s1600/IMG_0646.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFw8HSvD9Oil5VQpSsIre1N-iY2DH4iDPOdh4UJSQb2G1c6_jaewgVNhAZfaLdJdgoiFjp0JGcyF8fgJ_1JShS42Bs2P3A2ULJT0om_50TvjIENHU7CYuqojhIwnOie9QXvOgzIyyVkbc/s1600/IMG_0646.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The above pattern is by my currently favourite user on braceletbook.com, <a href="http://www.braceletbook.com/user/mikkomix.html" target="_blank">Mikkomix</a>. I don't actually know her, but I've fallen in love with her patterns and colour schemes. She also has a shop and other cool things on her website, like cool free fonts! <a href="http://www.itrydiy.me/" target="_blank">Do check her out</a>!</div>

<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3586_zps4d530b46.png"><br />
<br />
I promised to write the pattern for it ages ago, but then life happened (as it does, which is also the reason this blog has been inactive for so long). But I finally, finally wrote the pattern and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/christmas-tree-beanie">put it up on Ravelry</a>. So if you need to make a last-minute gift, or something festive to keep you warm in the following weeks, check it out! It's a super simple, super quick project.<br />
<br />

I really love this yarn. It's light and soft and drapey, and it's that wonderful cream color that makes every outfit look amazing.<br />

I didn't use a pattern for this. I just used a large hook and the woven crochet stitch, and made a large rectangle. I didn't make an actual buttonhole either, the gaps in this are large enough for the button to comfortably slip through.<br />
<br />

<br />
I really like how warm and soft this is, and how it can look different depending on where I button it. For example, sometimes I like folding down the top edge of the cowl so it's a bit collar-like:<br />

I finished this project during the holidays, as the title implies, but I've been once again procrastinating and just now got around to posting about it. Christmas might be over, but that doesn't mean we can't still enjoy a nice holiday project ;)<br />
<br />
(Apologies for the mediocre photo quality, it was way too bright in my room when I took these.)<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3578_zps6af225b4.png"><br />
<br />
I spent all of December watching the <a href="http://yogscast.com/">Yogscast</a> charity livestreams, and everyone kept wearing these adorable Christmas tree hats. I loved them so much that I couldn't resist trying to knit one for my very own. The livestreams were perfect to knit to as well!<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_35812_zps0667ed52.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3586_zps4d530b46.png"><br />
<br />
I completely improvised the pattern, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out (even though I wish I had used a less soft acrylic yarn so the beanie wasn't so droopy. On the plus side, though, it's super comfy). It's knitted on straight needles and sewed up at the back, and the star is crocheted and stuffed so it's all puffy and squishy :D<br />
<br />
I'm thinking about maybe writing up a pattern for this, but it's still a while until next Christmas, so we'll see.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-53384209844728262942012-11-21T17:18:00.001+02:002012-11-21T17:18:45.270+02:00Owl Hat!<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3399.png"><br />
<br />
I had my birthday last week, and since the weather's thankfully getting cold enough for hats, I thought I'd make this as a birthday present to myself :D I've been seeing a few owl hats around lately, and I think they're adorable, so I was inspired.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3374-2.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3416.png"><br />
<br />
The pattern I used is <a href="http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/2012/09/crochet-owl-hat-pattern-in-newborn.html">this one</a>. I did the teen/adult size, which ended up being a little big for me (or maybe I just like my hats a little snug, I don't know).<br />
<br />
I also made a few modifications to the pattern - made the earflaps longer and a bit rounder, changed the nose a bit, and I also added a pom pom at the top and a single crochet edge using all the colors. I used two buttons for the eyes.<br />
<br />
I'm really pleased with it. I always wanted a hat with earflaps!sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-34710047752241533742012-11-03T00:29:00.001+02:002012-11-03T00:29:24.834+02:00Superhero UndiesI don't know what it is about comics and cartoons, but they make me want superhero-themed undies. Last year, after reading Batman comics, and having just done laundry, I transformed a pair of plain black undies into these kick-ass ones:<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_11722-1.png"><br />
<br />
They ended up being my favourite pair that I wore on bad days to make me feel better. (Yes, that is my secret - Batman underwear.) So a little while back, I was inspired to make more while marathoning Batman Beyond, since I had just bought some plain underwear. (Sidenote: how amazing is that show?)<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3047_zpsca3ba60b.png"><br />
<br />
And so, here are Batman Beyond-style and Nightwing undies!<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_3035_zps8dbfbcb5.png"><br />
<br />
The Nightwing ones again (he is my favouritest).<br />
<br />
All of these were made using stencils that I made out of cardboard and acrylic paints. Out of all of them, the best one is the Nightwing one, because the fabric is a lighter color, so I didn't have to use too many layers of paint. The stencil came off easier (whereas with the other two, bits of cardboard stuck to the edges and had to be peeled off with tweezers) and it looks more matte and less 'plastic-y'. The acrylic holds up pretty well in the wash too - like I said, I made the first ones over a year ago, and the stencil is still holding up without peeling off or washing off. The acrylic cracks and 'breaks' a bit, which gives it a distressed, grungy look that I absolutely love.<br />
<br />
Are you inspired to make your own superhero panties?sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-38595880300079470512012-10-10T00:03:00.000+03:002012-10-10T00:04:17.058+03:00Cat HatI recently found <a href="http://mysteriouscats.com/hello-welcome-plus-cat-beanie-tutorial/">this amazing post</a> with a pattern for a cat beanie, and I naturally thought it was the most amazing thing in the entire world. I immediately had to make one for my cat, Kida.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://s644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_2962-small.png"><br />
<i><small>"I hate you."</small></i><br />
<br />
I modified the pattern a fair amount, and added ribbing and a pom pom, but the basic principle is pretty much the same :D I kept giggling to myself while making this. Kida was NOT impressed.<br />
<br />
I think I'm going to make a bunch of these. They're just too amusing.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-69252935695018006332012-08-03T18:58:00.001+03:002012-08-03T18:58:21.036+03:00Decoupaged night tableThe past few months have been really busy, as summer always is, what with exams and me starting to work on my thesis. So I haven't been crafting much, but I saw <a href="http://missmustardseed.com/2010/03/sytycd-week-4-whites/">this link</a> on Pinterest (as you do), and I just HAD to do something similar. I've been meaning to update my bedroom furniture for a while now, so I picked my night table to experiment on.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_2628.png"><br />
<br />
I used a completely different kind of sheet music for each drawer - pages from a hymnal that I got in a Craftster swap, sheet music that I got from another swap, and a couple pages from an old solfege book from my music-learning days.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_2620.png"><br />
<br />
I dismantled the drawers of my night table, then I tore up the sides of the pages and crumpled them up a little, glued them on the drawers, and when they dried, I used watercolors to make the pages look even more aged and yellowed.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_2593.png"><br />
<br />
Here is a close-up of the middle drawer, made with the pages from the hymnal.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-25126470643205249412012-05-01T17:05:00.000+03:002012-05-01T18:08:08.588+03:00Pumpkin Virtuoso<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1807.png">
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1804.png">
<br><br>
I made this little guy for my friend's birthday that was a couple weeks ago (so, yeah, if you were wondering why I was not posting, this is what I was working on). He uses this picture A LOT as his avatar:
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkinvirtuoso.png">
<br><br>
so I thought I'd go about recreating it in reality. (I'm sorry that I have no credit for this icon, if you've made it or know who has, please let me know!) The first thing I got excited about knitting the little scarf (which is ironic because it ended up being the thing I hated making the most), and I contemplated various ways of making the body and violin. I was all prepared to make it all out of clay, but then it hit me. Paper mache!
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1443.png">
<br><br>
I shaped the body and head out of newspaper and painter's tape. I used thick string for the 'veins' on the pumpkin, and pipe cleaners for the fingers. I basically folded two pieces of pipe cleaner in half, and inserted the folded part in a tube of newspaper for arms. (Apologies for the messy desk, but paper mache is a really messy craft :P)
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1442.png">
<br><br>
The violin is two pieces of violin-shaped cardboard filled with newspaper and bound with painter's tape, and the bow is just another pipe cleaner. This entire process took about three hours while I was rewatching Sound of Music with a friend.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1453.png">
<br><br>
I used PVA glue mixed with water and paper towels, here is the first layer applied. I think I did... four layers? Though the base, for example, only has two layers of glue and paper towels, and the pumpkin head has a couple more. With the breaks needed for the glue to dry, this process took around three days.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1503.png">
<br><br>
I first painted the whole thing with light grey acrylic paint. Then I switched to gouache (mostly because I had way more colors and wouldn't need to do as much mixing, but I ended up really thankful I did because I would be way less comfortable shading with acrylics). I've never really shaded a 3D object before, but I am quite pleased with the results, especially on the pumpkin. Finally, I glazed the whole thing.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1818-2.png">
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1821.png">
<br><br>
Sewing the tiny coat was another challenge, because sleeves confuse the hell out of me. It worked out alright after a lot of trial and error. I used felt and handsaw it.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1822.png">
<br><br>
I used fishing line for the strings, and cut little notches into the base of the violin so I could thread the line through the loop at the neck of the violin and tuck it into the notches so it was nice and secure.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1808.png">
<br><br>
Then I knitted a tiny scarf, and that was basically it. Except not, because aaaaaaaah, I hate tiny scarves. Hate hate hate. It was so tedious, and I ended up being frustrated and having loose ends poking all over the place because <i>there were so many of them</i> and I just had no patience. So the scarf is a little bit crap, but shhh, don't look too closely at it.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1828.png">
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1790.png">
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/IMG_1803.png">
<br><br>
I think my favourite part might be the hands, oddly. I just used some really, really watered down gouache a shade darker than the base color I used, and it settled into the grooves and made this quite awesome shading.
<br><br>
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/pumpkin%20virtuoso/Untitled-1.png">
<br><br>
From the side and the back.
<br><br>
Overall, I think this entire thing took about... thirty hours of work, maybe, not counting waiting time. But it was worth it, and it was one of the most fun projects I've worked on in a while!sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-76230915012470765752012-04-02T00:31:00.001+03:002012-04-02T16:04:05.309+03:00Prettified keyboard!I haven't updated in <i>ages</i>. I've been incredibly busy with school, and most of my crafting has been for swaps over at Craftster, so I can't reveal anything yet, since my partners haven't received :) I am also working on a rather big project for a friend's birthday.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, here's a quick little "craft" I did yesterday!<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1477.png"><br />
<br />
I saw <a href="http://hernewleaf.com/2012/01/16/diy-washi-tape-laptop-keyboard/">this amazing post</a> by <a href="http://hernewleaf.com/">Kira</a> and I was in love. How adorable is that keyboard! So I checked out <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/leboxboutique">Le Box Boutique</a> on Etsy (they are really great, they have a huge variety of gorgeous tapes, and they're really affordable), and an amazing friend of mine bought me a few rolls of tape from them.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1498.png"><br />
<br />
Mine is a little more subdued, as you can see. I think I'll leave it as it is and not put tape on the rest of the keys, because I quite like the simple, clean look of it now. I might decorate the caps lock and enter keys, though.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-18995475795981430492012-01-31T16:17:00.000+02:002012-01-31T16:17:19.208+02:00Fabric baskets - my new addictionI have decided that this year I'm going to get more organised and tidy. I live in a tiny place, and I've managed to accumulate <i>a lot</i> of crafting supplies, so it's pretty much a nightmare. My yarn stash was getting especially out of control lately, and since it's the middle of my exam period and thus the time when I procrastinate a lot and do a hundred things as an excuse to not study, I had the perfect opportunity to sew a basket for it.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1017.png"><br />
<br />
I dug up some Ikea fabric I got years ago, and re-purposed a pillowcase, and whipped this up the night before my second-to-last exam. It was a really quick project, even for me, and I'm not the fastest or most adept with a sewing machine. It took about an hour from start to finish.<br />
<br />
I fell <i>completely in love</i> with it. I always love it when I get amazing results with not insane amounts of effort, but this basket is <i>so useful</i> on top of that.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1014.png"><br />
<br />
Here it is on the shelf that previously had a ton of yarn messily piled on it. The different yarns are less visible now, but it's much easier to root through the basket, whereas previously all the skeins came tumbling down when I tried to grab something from the very back :|<br />
<br />
I was so in love that I decided to make a smaller basket to keep all the unfinished projects that are normally strewn on my desk.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1029.png"><br />
<br />
Made with more Ikea fabric. I used light fusible interfacing for this one, so it holds its shape a lot better. It was also my first time working with interfacing (as I said, I'm not much of a sewist) and I am blown away by it XD I wish I had made the little tag-handles a little shorter, but otherwise, I'm very pleased by it.<br />
<br />
I was still addicted, so I made <i>another</i> one yesterday:<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1054.png"><br />
<br />
I did a pattern that's more like a box for this one, as opposed to the previous bucket-like ones, and I used a piece of cork sheet inserted between the lining and the outside fabric to make the bottom sturdier. I wish I had used interfacing with this one too so it wasn't as floppy, but I don't mind it that much. I didn't actually had a specific purpose for it when I made it, so it's accommodating my pitiful collection of fabrics for now.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1046.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_1038-2.png"><br />
<br />
I mostly did my own thing with them, but I was very inspired by <a href="http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=204022.0">this amazing tutorial</a>, as well as <a href="http://thestitchinchicken.com/2009/06/13/tutorial-fabric-bucketbasket/">this one</a> and <a href="http://jezzeblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/no-interfacing-storage-basket-tutorial.html">this one</a>.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-23602935442009963182012-01-23T11:20:00.000+02:002012-01-23T11:20:57.566+02:00Waffle stitch glovesIt's been so cold here the past couple of weeks that, even around the house, I've been wishing for a warmer pair of gloves. That's when I found <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/waffle-stitch-fingerless-gloves">this pattern</a> and decided to have a go at it.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Knitting/IMG_0984.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Knitting/IMG_0965.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Knitting/IMG_0958.png"><br />
<br />
As you can probably see, I fiddled with the original pattern <i>a lot</i>. I made mine quite a bit smaller than the pattern suggested, because I have tiny hands, I changed up the stitch in the cuff and edge, and I added a thumb gusset by increasing two stitches every three rows or so.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Knitting/IMG_0911.png"><br />
<br />
In progress shot. As you can see, I knitted them flat and then sewed them up the side. I made them with worsted weight merino yarn, the scraps I had left from <a href="http://craftsbysinjah.blogspot.com/2012/01/entrelac-scarf-finally-finished.html">the entrelac scarf I knitted</a> - I literally had two inches of yarn left when I was done, I was seriously worried that there wouldn't be enough to finish the second glove.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-85773987590479101172012-01-17T18:17:00.003+02:002012-01-17T20:25:29.578+02:00Entrelac scarf, finally finished(It was actually finished a couple weeks ago, but it's exam time, so I just got around to updating.)<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0867copy.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0865copy.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0861copy.png"><br />
<br />
I didn't really block the scarf - just steam-blocked a little bit, because I really love the texture of unblocked entrelac *__*<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0860copy.png"><br />
<br />
I love how it turned out. The friend it was for liked it too :D And, even though it got really tiring towards the end, I really did love knitting entrelac. Usually my problem when knitting or crocheting is that I get bored. Which is why I have so many WIPs -__- It's exciting at first, but then I have to do the same thing row after row, and I lose interest (it doesn't help that my attention span is that of an overexcited three-year-old or something). But entrelac is involved enough that kept my interest the whole time. Not to mention that it gave me an excuse to practice my backwards knitting ;) Now I want to make entrelac hats and entrelac gloves and more entrelac scarves *__*<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0869copy.png"><br />
<br />
All the yarn I snipped off after I waved in all the loose ends - quite a pile :Psinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-24303279148001241662011-12-11T15:09:00.000+02:002011-12-11T15:09:07.962+02:00Progress!Entrelac scarf is going along swimmingly!<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Crochet/IMG_0751.png"><br />
<br />
My first attempt was way too wide, so I frogged and restarted it, and now it's just perfect. It's really not a hard technique, once you get the hang of it - at this point, the hardest, most annoying thing is having to join in a different color every tier :P<br />
<br />

I'm seriously in love with it, knitting entrelac is extremely enjoyable.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-26903939988382336422011-12-08T14:37:00.001+02:002011-12-08T14:38:29.053+02:00More gloves, and headbandsIt's really chilly here, so I recently made a pair of my <a href="http://craftsbysinjah.blogspot.com/2011/02/v-stitch-fingerless-gloves-free-pattern.html">v-stitch gloves</a> for myself.<br />
<br />

<br />
The cuff is knit instead of crocheted.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Crochet/IMG_0274.png"><br />
<br />
I also whipped up a couple of simple crocheted headbands today.<br />

I keep making these kinds of headbands in all kinds of colors. They're so quick and easy to make, but so cute.sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-16314389950459767212011-12-04T19:18:00.001+02:002011-12-11T15:10:26.193+02:00A hat, and the beginnings of a scarfI've been meaning to make an interesting-looking beanie-like hat for a while now, and when I saw <a href="http://flowerpotdesigns.ca/2010/07/14/as-sweet-as-honey/">this pattern</a> I knew this would be it.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0624.png"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0632.png"><br />
<br />
I made my ribbed brim about an inch or so shorter than the pattern said, so I could wear it unfolded as a slouchy hat without it being too long.<br />
<br />
I was also commissioned by a friend to knit an entrelac scarf, and I spent this morning playing around with it.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/IMG_0671copycopy.png"><br />
<br />
I've never knitted entrelac before, and I'm surprised at how fast it works. After the first couple of tiers everything gets a lot less confusing, the pattern is easy to remember, and it generally turns into an incredibly fun project! I'm really excited about this one.<br />
<br />
(Also, knitting with merino will never not be a delight.)sinjahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04570335586987589005noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5002080616561831952.post-82608909400653792022011-11-05T17:45:00.000+02:002011-11-05T17:45:38.558+02:00Ribbed GlovesI whipped these up last weekend. They're my first ever knitted gloves, and I'm pretty pleased with them.<br />
<br />

<br />
Just a simple pair of ribbed knitted gloves for a friend. I used <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/basic-fingerless-mitts">this great pattern</a>, but I modified it quite a bit. I made them larger to fit a man's hand, I did 3x2 ribbing, and I didn’t knit a thumb, just the gusset, which I made a little shorter than the pattern said.<br />

<br />
I've had a pretty busy summer, but I've had some downtime the past couple of weeks, so one of my <a href="http://craftsbysinjah.blogspot.com/2011/05/wip.html">biggest</a> <a href="http://craftsbysinjah.blogspot.com/2011/05/wip-part-2.html">WIPs</a> is finally, <i>finally</i> done.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Crochet/IMG_01600-2.png"><br />
<br />

<br />
Roomy bag made of crocheted granny squares, with knitted sides and bottom, and knitted I-cord handles. The lining is a re-purposed pillowcase - I love the colors, I really didn't want it to be too matchy, so I love the contrast of the lining to the outside of the bag.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Crochet/IMG_0147-2.png"><br />
<br />
I used an orange wooden bead for the flap closure, and I painted it with purple nail polish, which I then distressed a little, so it would match the lining. I also embroidered little Xs on the flap and knitted the straps mismatched for some whimsy.<br />
<br />

<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Crochet/IMG_0144.png"><br />
<br />
In general, this was one of the longest, most involved projects I've ever done, but also one of my favourites ;)<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/uu164/tempalb/Crochet/IMG_0155.png"><br />
<br />
Here's the other side of it - all the granny squares are different.<br />
